As the gas tries to escape, it has to push its way between those smooth surfaces. Instead of slipping quietly through the hair, the escaping air can cause the bare skin to separate and vibrate.
The result?

And if there’s a little moisture involved, things can apparently get even noisier.
Beauty expert Courtney Claghorn told the New York Post that removing the hair increases skin-to-skin contact and that moisture can contribute to unexpected noises.
In other words, your stomach isn’t necessarily producing bigger farts.
